 THE DEMOCRATIC MANIFESTO

We live in the beginning of the new third millennium when the new world reality suggests looking at the events in the world and around us with new understanding. Nowadays, all the developed and civilized world lives in the conditions of freedom and democracy, humanism, internationalism, cosmopolitism, mutual integration and globalization. There are many ideologies, cultures, religions and teachings in the world; and we are sure that their peaceful existence in the contemporary world is possible provided that we all understand that all the people may differ in their views but still they should respect other views if these views are peaceful, neither bring violence nor break our freedom. We believe that the world is a wonderful unity of differences, the alliance for overall happiness and peace.

We think that any politics should focus on a human being, its freedom, dignity, happiness and interests. We are sure that any politics should act the way people could live in peace, with dignity and opportunity to reach their happiness and life goals.

We consider democracy as such a historically developed political system, which provides the people with an opportunity to live as they want, so the people could freely choose their life ways, which gives the people equal opportunities in life, depending on their abilities, knowledge and desires, which provides the peoples with peaceful coexistence together. We believe that freedom, being the core of democracy, is the most important value of the modern world, which gives a person an opportunity to be happy.  

We are sure that Russia, the great country with great history and culture, the country we live in, should be a free and democratic state. We believe that Russia should be a modern and developed country integrated into the civilized community of the democratic countries-leaders. We consider contemporary Russian politics be based on the known fundamental principles of modern democracy. We think that government, society and all social institutions of Russia should do their best today so Russia will become the free, democratic and prosperous state. We believe in Russia - the country of opportunity for everyone.

We believe that the only source of political power is the society, the Russian multinational people - the Russian nation, and that our social move towards the world progress depends on how active we are as citizens. We are sure that nobody has the right to usurp and use the political power given by the people as a means to establish a dictatorship of his personality over the society. We think that the activity of civil associations, public and non-governmental organizations, movements, unions and political parties is crucial today for the embodiment of our ideals for better future for us and next generations.

We, the young Russian citizens united in the public movement "Progressive Youth Union", will try to contribute to the free and democratic development of our country using our knowledge, skills, talents and possibilities in favor of the society. We pursue exceptionally socially useful and peaceful objects; we do not accept either violence or transgression of the law, or forced usurpation of political power, or social discord.

Our goals are: assistance in democratization of Russia and formation of active civil society, involvement of young active people into social and political activity, presentation and promotion of youth social interests. We aim at carrying out public rallies, events and campaigns, realization of youth socially important civil initiatives, public protection of youth civil rights and human rights as a whole.

We are the free movement of citizens based on the understanding of its participants and supporters that it is necessary and important for young citizens to promote their own social interests and participate in social and political life today to make our country more democratic, more liberal, more effective and more prosperous. Our values are the values of freedom and democracy, the values of the dignity of a human being. Our ideological core is democracy based on social and liberal values. We are in support of social and cultural progress of Russia, the rule of law, development of civil and open society, tolerance towards minorities and different beliefs, participation of young citizens in the decision-making in government policy, encouragement of small- and middle-scale business and entrepreneurship among young people, the economic growth, social and health care of high quality for people, government support in housing policy, accessibility of education, reformation of Russian Army and liberation from overall military draft, healthy way of life, moral progress, clean and healthy environment.

We are trying to make our ideals closer to life in our everyday activity: while studying, working and being socially and politically active. We really want to make our country closer to the world civilization of free countries and developed democracies. Our mission is to make young and active people, like we are, more and more interested in social and political life of our country, to make us feel citizens who are the leading part of the society. We also believe that what we do is very important because we feel responsibility for the country we live in.

We believe that one day Russia will join the family of truly free and democratic states for peace and stable development of the world we all share. Viva peace, freedom and democracy, and our personal happiness!
